AccSys Technology, Inc. Selects IMATRON™ Japan, Inc. for PULSAR® Systems Distribution

Dr. Jerry Robinson, Vice President and PET Program Manager at AccSys
Technology, Inc. announced today that the Company has signed an agreement
appointing IMATRON™ Japan, Inc. (IJ) as the exclusive distributor for AccSys'
PULSAR® positron tracer products in the Japanese market. According to Dr.
Robert W. Hamm, AccSys' President and CEO, "This agreement represents a major
milestone in our ongoing introduction of PULSAR® into the global marketplace.
The interest in PET and coincidence nuclear camera imaging in Japan is greater
than ever. We are very excited about having the opportunity to work closely with
IMATRON$trade; Japan to develop and serve this important market". Details of the
three year agreement, which includes order guarantees and a commitment to a
major investment in AccSys, were not released.
AccSys Technology's PULSAR® product line represents the next generation of
positron radiotracer production equipment. Positron radiotracers are used in
medicine for research and diagnostic imaging studies using techniques such as
Positron Emission Tomography (PET) or high energy Single Photon Emission
Computed Tomography (SPECT). PULSAR® establishes a new standard in optimized
performance for efficient, cost-effective and reliable production of
positron-labeled radiotracers for regional distribution, physiologic imaging
research and clinical diagnostic applications.
Regarding the agreement, Sachiko Kinoshita, IMATRON Japan's President, noted
"We regard this link to AccSys Technology as a key to our successful entry into
the PET business in Japan. IJ has a record of bringing the latest technology in
medical equipment to the Japanese market, and our PULSAR® distribution
agreement will allow us to continue to do that.
IMATRON™ Japan, Inc. is headquartered in Tokyo. The Company was founded in
1993 to sell and service the Ultrafast CT® Scanner produced by IMATRON™, Inc.
of South San Francisco, CA. IJ now has six (6) regional offices to support its
sales and service organization in Japan. It is one of the fastest growing
medical equipment companies in Japan. There are 25 IMATRON™ Ultrafast CT®
Scanners in operation in Japan today with 5 more on order. These units
incorporate IMATRON™'s unique Electron Beam Tomography (EBT) in a diagnostic
imaging system which acquires CT data 10 times faster than conventional CT and
displays physiologic motion in real time.
AccSys Technology is the world's leading commercial producer of rf ion
linacs. The Company was founded in 1985 to commercialize advanced radiofrequency
(rf) ion linac technology for applications in medicine, industry and research,
with emphasis on developing an innovative system for producing the short-lived
radiotracers used in medical positron imaging. AccSys has produced and installed
