Technology's LANSAR® neutron generators
in cargo inspection systems
Varian Medical Systems, Inc. (NYSE:VAR) and AccSys Technology, Inc. of Pleasanton,

AccSys Technology's LANSAR® line of neutron generators for non-destructive testing
and cargo inspection. Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
Varian, which is well known as the world's leading producer of linear
accelerators for treating cancer with radiotherapy and is also the market leader

cargo inspection. Varian will market the LANSAR® line from AccSys Technology for
non-destructive testing applications, including neutron radiography, nuclear
waste assay and on-line mineral analysis. In addition, both companies see
potential applications for this technology in cargo inspection.
"The LANSAR® line is a welcome addition to Linatron® and PaxScan products that
we make available for non-destructive testing and cargo inspection," said James
Johnson, Managing Director of Varian Medical Systems' Industrial Products Group.
"We believe LANSAR® represents the most advanced technology available to the
market today and neutron generators will play an important role in cargo
scanning systems."
"This agreement with an established world leader like Varian will make our
neutron generation technology available to the market more rapidly," said Dr.
Robert W. Hamm, President and CEO of AccSys Technology, Inc.
The LANSAR® neutron generators are based on accelerator technology developed
by AccSys founders Drs. Robert W. and Marianne E. Hamm in conjunction with
scientists from the Los Alamos National Laboratory. These accelerators generate
neutrons by bombarding beryllium targets with either protons or deuterons.
LANSAR® units are available with energies ranging from 0.5 MV to 11 MV.
